Brother and Business Senator James Harden Wins Enough Votes to be Reelected as FIU’s Business Senator

James Harden enjoys a swim in FIU's fountain after being reelected as Business Senator for FIU's SGA.

Brother and Business Senator James Harden eagerly awaited for his named to be called on Thursday afternoon during the election results announcing the new positions of the Student Government Association (SGA) at Florida International University (FIU).

During the Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, FIU’s student body voted for who they thought would best serve in FIU’s SGA. Brother James Harden, who was serving the end of his term as Business Senator in SGA, sought reelection into his position by winning enough votes during the election. Out of a total of five candidates, Mr. Harden won the majority vote and was elected to serve another term as business senator.

James Harden ran for business senator last year during SGA’s elections but did not receive enough votes to be elected. Mr. Harden was eventually given the position of business senator after one of the previous business senators stepped down and he was appointed the empty position which needed to be filled.

As FIU’s tradition goes, all the winning candidates jumped into FIU’s fountain shortly after the results were revealed. After losing last year’s SGA elections for business senator, Mr. Harden took a swim in FIU’s fountain for the first time with a sign of relief on his face for properly winning a position which he had so much passion towards.

Gamma is in the Books

Gamma Class, the third pledge class after the Founding Fathers, with their new member educator, Marshal Fernando Monge

The Iota Omicron chapter reached another important milestone on April 7th, 2013; twelve gentlemen were finally fully accepted into Theta Chi Fraternity’s brotherhood.

Under new member educator, Marshal Fernando Monge, Gamma class learned the history and values of Theta Chi Fraternity during their pledge process. Fernando Monge had this to say about Gamma class:

Though they were a quiet bunch and sometimes slow to learn, as initiation was drawing near, they surpassed all of my expectations and made me realize how great of assets every single one of them is going to be towards the betterment of the Iota Omicron chapter.

The following men were initiated on Sunday:

  1. Alex Cabili
  2. Leo Costa
  3. Jack Elder
  4. Felipe Gonzalez
  5. Harrison Johny
  6. Chaddi Jurdi
  7. Andrew Lazo
  8. Erik Leira
  9. Guillermo Ortas
  10. Erik Rodriguez
  11. Oscar Romero
  12. Ryan Sheffield

A thirteenth man, John Fields, was not able to attend initiation on Sunday. An unavoidable scheduling conflict with his duties as a U.S. Marine kept him from being initiated with the twelve other men on Sunday. However, Mr. Fields put in the same amount of hard work as his fellow pledge brothers and a separate initiation ceremony was held just for him a couple of days later on Tuesday.

Ahmed Alnahhas

Ahmed Alnahhas is a 24 year old aspiring Cardiologist, and a resident of Miramar, FL. He’s a double major in Pre-Medicine and Biological Sciences. Alnahhas, a member of the founding father class of the Iota Omicron chapter, is also an initiate of Phi Delta Epsilon, an international professional fraternity specializing in Medicine. Ahmed, who is a current intern with a family physician, intends to embody the idea of “Theta Chi for life”, extending an assisting hand to all who seek it, in his professional career. Alnahhas, with exemplary academic standards, is our current Scholarship Chairman.

Samuel Comandari

Samuel Comandari

Samuel Comandari, a resident of Pembroke Pines, FL, is a 2008 graduate of Everglades High School and is a proud Gator alum. After earning his Associates from Miami Dade College, he is now a Senior pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences at Florida International University. Sam showed a strong dedication to the brotherhood immediately after signing his bid card by going to his local barbershop to get his letters etched in his always clean fade. With this dedication noticed, and a proven track record of bank telling, Sam became the first official Treasurer of the Iota Omicron Chapter. Sam is an avid soccer fan, and a Catracho ’til he dies.

Alexander Rodriguez

Alexander Rodriguez

Alexander Rodriguez (Miami, FL), a Finance and Business Management double major in his junior year at Florida International University, graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in 2010. Upon showing an admirable display of academic persistence while entering the Fraternity (even now sporting a 3.62 GPA) during the Spring semester of his freshman year, it was no surprise that Brother Rodriguez would play a viable role in the chapter’s inner-workings as time progressed in Iota Omicron’s young history. Always willing to participate in any of the Fraternity’s endeavors, the young Rodriguez served a full term as Risk Manager, developing a vast knowledge of FPIG regulations, all the while being very cordial during his term as Risk Manager. With his mastering of fraternity policy through the knowledge gained as Risk Manager, Rodriguez now serves as our chapter’s current Vice President.

Snapshot in The Beacon

Theta Chi was spotted in Florida International University’s student newspaper on Monday. In the Student Life section located on the fourth page, Brother Stephen Koch and Brother Alex Alvarez can be seen in a picture taken during the spring semester’s IFC (Interfraternity Council) recruitment week.

Out with the Old, In with the New

Theta Chi Iota Omicron’s online services are undergoing huge changes!

As you can probably already tell, our website has received a nice and fancy overhaul. As far as content goes, everything is the same (for the most part), the only thing that has really changed is the layout of the website. Also, have I mentioned that this website is mobile-friendly now? If you have a smartphone or tablet, you can now easily browse this website on-the-go!

Now doesn’t that just look nice?

Previously, we focused all of Iota Omicron’s news and content on our Facebook page, but we promise to keep the website updated on a constant basis (even more of a reason to check out our mobile site!). Speaking of Facebook, we created a new Facebook page. All you have to do is log into Facebook using your own account, follow the link at the bottom of this post, and click “Like” on our page.

“But wait, doesn’t that mean you have two Facebook pages now?”

Yes… for now. Our previous page, titled ThetaChi IotaOmicron, will cease to exist once we have a good amount of Likes on our new page. During this transition period though, we will post content on both pages, just to keep those who haven’t switched over in-the-loop. So will you please help speed up this transition process and Like our new page?

What are you waiting for? “Like” our new page!

2013 is already a busy year for us. We can’t wait to show you what we have in store!

Steven Gonzalez

Steven M. Gonzalez

Steven Gonzalez grew up as a product of Westchester, living here in Miami, FL, and graduated in 2010 from Christopher Columbus High School. He then continued his studies at Florida International pursuing a degree in Political Science. He’s thus furthered his experience in serving the public, (after rallying votes during the last gubernatorial campaign for now Governor Rick Scott) by being the first brother in our chapter’s young history to hold office in Student Government; holding the highly coveted Senator-at-Large position. Within the brotherhood, which Gonzalez has been a member of since his freshman year, he had held the chapter’s first Historian position, and with steady dedication to chapter affairs, he was recently elected as Iota Omicron’s third official President.
